Why doesn't Israel withdraw from the Occupied territories if it wants peace?
The occupation did not cause the enmity between Israelis and the Arabs of Palestine. The occupation was a result of this enmity. The Arab struggle to destroy Israel has been going on since 1948. Palestinian Arab attempts to exclude Jews from their homeland have been going on for over a hundred years. Bloody riots erupted periodically in Palestine under the British Mandate in 1920, 1921, 1929 (see Arab Riots and Massacres of 1929) and 1936-9 ( see Arab Uprising in Palestine). Israeli withdrawal, regardless of its other possible merits, will not end Palestinian violence. Israeli withdrawal without peace could create a lawless and chaotic area such as we are witnessing in Gaza, that is used to launch terror attacks against Israel. It could also create another confrontation state like Iran, right on Israel's borders. Israel is 10 miles across near Tel Aviv ( See Map - How big is Israel?), bordering on populous Palestinian areas.
