Hagannah Foundation Doctrine
The Haganah was the Jewish clandestine defense force in Palestine, founded in 1920. The foundations doctrine ("Ushiyot") that is summarized below was apparently promulgated in 1920, with the approval of the Histadrut at the foundation of the Hagannah. It is mentioned in the Hagannah oath, sworn upon induction of each new recruit. "Knesset Yisrael" mentioned in the doctrine, was the representative organization of the Yishuv (Jewish community in the land of Israel), including all factions other than the ultra-orthodox. It was organized in 1920, consisted of the assembly (aseyfat nivcharim - the gathering of representatives) and the Va'ad Leumi (National Council).
